Privacy Policy

KaedePath (“KaedePath”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is a Japanese-language learning app for JLPT N5 to N1. We are the controller of the personal information described here. For any privacy question, or to exercise your rights, email us at support.kotoba@gmail.com. If you operate KaedePath through a registered business, add its legal name and address here.

• Account details — your name and email address, and the credentials from the sign-in method you choose (for example email, or a Google account).
• Your learning data — the decks, flashcards and notes you create, your target JLPT level, and your study history: reviews, answers, streaks and progress.
• Content you submit to AI features — the text and prompts you send to features such as Generate Cards, Conversation and voice practice, AI grammar help and Analyze.
• Subscription & usage data — if you subscribe to KaedePath Pro, your plan status and AI-credit usage. Payments are handled by our payment provider; we do not store your full card details.
• Device & technical data — how you use the app, your device and browser type, and approximate location derived from your IP address. We use cookies and similar local storage to keep you signed in and remember preferences.

We use your information to:

• provide and personalise the learning experience, schedule reviews with spaced repetition, and sync your progress across devices;
• run the AI features you choose to use;
• manage your account, your KaedePath Pro subscription and AI-credit allowance, and take payment;
• provide support, keep KaedePath secure, prevent abuse and meet our legal obligations;
• improve KaedePath, using aggregated or de-identified data.

Where data-protection law applies, our legal bases are: performing our contract with you (providing the Service); your consent (for example optional emails); our legitimate interests (security and improving KaedePath); and compliance with legal obligations.

When you use an AI feature, the text you submit — along with limited context such as your target level — is sent to our AI provider to generate the result, which is then returned to you. We use it to provide the feature, not to identify you, and we ask our provider not to use your content to train their models (confirm this against your provider’s current terms). AI output can be inaccurate — please see our Terms of Service.

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers who help us run KaedePath — for example our hosting and database provider, our AI provider, our payment provider, and email or analytics tools — under contracts that require them to protect it. We may also disclose information where we are legally required to, to protect rights and safety, or as part of a business transfer (such as a merger or sale), in which case we will tell you.

Some of our providers may process your information outside the UK or EEA. Where they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the UK and EU approved standard contractual clauses.

We keep your account and learning data for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual content in the app at any time, or close your account, after which we delete or anonymise your personal information within a reasonable period — except limited records we are required to keep, such as payment records for tax and accounting.

You have the right to access, correct, delete, export, restrict or object to our use of your information, and to withdraw consent at any time. You can do much of this directly in the app, or by emailing support.kotoba@gmail.com. If you are in the UK, you can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

KaedePath is intended for users aged 13 and over. If you are under the age of digital consent in your country, please use KaedePath with a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13; if you believe a child has given us their information, contact us and we will delete it.

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes we will let you know in the app or by email, and we will update the “Last updated” date above.
